Script Re-Use and Multi-Part Matters

Many fans of the Old-Time Radio Detective genre enjoy the fifty-five multi-part Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar stories.
With more air time available, these 1955-56 stories featured more plot and character development than could accomplished
in the standard 30-minute time frame.

At least twenty-two of these multi-part stories were based on previously-written scripts from Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar and other series.
All eighteen multi-part YTJD stories written by John Dawson, a pen name used by E. Jack Neuman,
utilized 30-minute scripts that he had previously written or co-written for Johnny Dollar and other series such as
Night Beat;
Jeff Regan, Investigator;
The Adventures Of Sam Spade;
and
Richard Diamond, Private Detective.

Additionally, four multi-part YTJD stories written by Les Crutchfield recycled
30-minute scripts that Crutchfield had previously written for the series.

As would be expected, extensive modifications were made to the original 30-minute scripts when they were reused for
the longer, 1955-56 Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar format.
These modifications often included:
theme music;
openings, closings, and between acts segments;
locales;
Cast and Crew changes;
changes in plot which might involve addition and/or deletion of scenes and dialog;
expansion of existing dialog;
changes of character names;
addition of new characters;
addition of brief plot summary descriptions of previous segments of the current story line;
and
extension of the length of the closing music.

that used recycled scripts and the scripts upon which they were based.
