No matter which of the two Gildersleeves is your favorite, you can talk about him here!

Years ago, my father was editor of a small town weekly in New Hampshire. He and my mother used to listen to the Great Gildersleeve when it was on radio, Wednesday nights, for Kraft Cheese. I don't know why my father wrote to Hal Peary other than to express his appreciation of the show. Apparently Peary had said or done something on the program that Dad felt was newsworthy in his weekly column. He sent a copy of the column to Peary who wrote back a short time later. The letter is now in my large collection of movie star autographs and I don't have it available right now. My recollection is that Peary apologized for being so late in answering, but he did say that he had received the column and that he was appreciative of Dad's support. Dad had mentioned it to me several times over the years about the letter so when I went through his papers, I put it in my scrapbook.
