Listening to a GG show the other day from Dec 1947 that Hal Peary wasn't even in. Evidently he was out sick that week so the episode was written around him. The plot had to do with Gildy upset at a story in the paper so he goes back to bed with different characters coming to the door and him giving everyone the silent treatment. Although it worked as a story it was still odd - you just hear sound effects of him rustling around. At the end Marjorie and Leroy make an announcement Hal was out sick and a 'goodnight folks'. I'm guessing in that era the writers had to come up with a quick last minute script to cover for that or get a substitute voice actor. Willard Waterman where were you that night?
